Plasterboarding is often the first step before the plaster goes on. Boarding out new stud walls, lining old walls and replacing tired ceilings with fresh board gives a solid, flat surface to finish.
What's involved
Boards are fixed to the studwork or to the existing wall, with neat joints and openings cut for doors, windows and sockets. Once the boards are up they are skimmed to a smooth finish, so the room is ready to decorate. The photo on this page is from one of Richard's jobs: a new partition wall boarded out around a doorway.
When it makes sense
Dry lining suits new partition walls, loft and garage conversions, extensions, and rooms where the old walls or ceilings are too far gone to repair.
